JOY OF SETS TIC TAC TOE NOVEMBER - #JOSTTT023

Can you believe we are in November already? We are coming up to my favourite time of the year with Christmas on the horizon.  Who knows what sort of a Christmas it will be but I will still be doing all my favourites with our own family rituals of baking and crafts which my mum taught to me.

As you can see from my entry for this month's Joy of Sets Tic Tac Toe grid put together for us by Cheryl Even I have Christmas on my mind.  I'm in a real mixed media frame of mind at the moment and love getting inky.  I chose Numbers, Emboss, Embroidery Floss for my card.

I started off with this gorgeous coloured paper from Stampin Up as my card stock and used a Tim Holtz numbers stencil for the background numbers.  I made a tag with some old sheet music I have in my music stand (I play piano and sing and never thought to use that old music which is torn and unloved) and some of Tim Holtz Christmas Collage Paper and inked over it in Wilted Violet Distress Ink.

I embossed the stamp 25 days of Christmas with clear embossing powder and added a touch of ink.  I used some old paper in a similar colour to the Wilted Violet and tore the edges.  This paper used to be used all the time years ago and I found it in my stash and thought it could be used again - I can't even remember the name of it so if anyone knows I'd be grateful.

I added one of Tim's metal tags and used a white Distress Crayon to hightlight the wording.  A brass brad and some of the floss finished off the top.  I splattered some white gesso for some snow.

SIMON SAYS STAMP MONDAY CHALLENGE - CHRISTMAS TAGS

The challenge over at Simon Says Stamp on Monday is right up my street - Christmas Tags - one of my favourite things to make.

I've gone for a huge tag here as I wanted to get lots of the text from Tim Holtz' new stamp set Tiny Text Christmas on it to represent a christmas tree.

I started off by inking my tag with one of the new Tim Holtz mini stencils - the one with the Christmas Tree using Distress Ink Peeled Paint.  I then used Crackling Campfire Glaze for the sentiments and the star at the top.  I added some holly stamps with some green embossing powder.  I then cut out some of the Tim Holtz winter floral dies for the holly and pine branches and added some gems.

The white sentiments in between all come from Tim Holtz Sticker Book - Christmas as do the images and the plaid top and bottom of the tag.  I splattered some gesso over it to give it a snowy affect and edged the edges with Crackling Campfire distress ink.

Now the tricky bit is putting all those sentiments back in order in their packaging lol!

TRY STAMPIN ON TUESDAY - #TSOT482

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with our sketch this week at Try Stampin on Tuesday - I'm definitely in Christmas mode - let's be honest I will make a Christmas card as soon as September has passed lol!  They are my favourite cards to make.  I haven't started off the Christmas music yet though - however with the UK back in lockdown I just might start playing some to keep me out of the doldrums!  I hope you are all staying safe wherever in the world you are and how strange it is to see different countries doing different things - very confusing!

Anyway - on to my card for this week's sketch.  I wanted to do a card which would also fit in with Tim Holtz's Saturday live this week to use leaves.

I started off with using one of his new Christmas mini stencils which as the lovely pine leaves, fir cones and berries and I used Rusty Hinge distress ink on some SU cardstock in Crumb Cake for my base.  I used Festive Berries distress ink for the berries.  I had an old piece of a project in my stash which had the wood grain embossed on it and I used this for the background for the wreath.  The wreath is one of Tim Holtz' and I used Distress Inks in Peeled Paint and Pine Needles to colur it in.  Festive Berries was used for the bow.

The leaves in the background are also Tim Holtz die cuts and I used a mix of distress inks in the greens added with Walnut Stain and Scattered Straw to colour them in.

I added some shiny red rhinestones and the sentiment is from the new TH stamp set Tiny Text Christmas which has been embossed in Crackling Campfire embossing glaze.  I also hung the wreath from the top of the card with some SU linen thread.

SPARKLES CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE - SILVER OR GOLD AND /OR GLITTER

Firm favourites are the challenge over at Sparkles Christmas Challenge this month with a choice of Silver or Gold - so I'm not sure why this nearly had my stumped! I tried a few options until I was happy with the one I chose.

I started off with some Tim Holtz Distress inks and blanked off a part of my base card stock with some paper and then added the inks - I chose Distress inks in Wilted Violet, Weathered Wood and Chipped Sapphire Oxide Ink.  I waited until the ink was completely dry before adding a Tim Holtz snowflake with some Versamark ink and then covering it in Silver Embossing Powder.

The sentiment stamped in TH Archival Ink in Cobalt is an old TH stamp.

SWEET STAMPIN - CHILDREN'S BIRTHDAY

Our challenge over at Sweet Stampin this week had me a bit stumped. I must admit I don't often do children's cards and don't really have any stamps that fit.  So I did some punch art in every child's favourite toy - Lego.

I cut out the shapes in prime colours and then cut out some circles in the same colours and added them with dimensionals - with a touch of same colour ink around each circle it gives the impression of a lego block.  I added some stamping around the outside and a big number for a birthday.  A very simple but effective card I think.

STAMPIN UP ONLY CHALLENGE - FALL/AUTUMN

A nice easy challenge for you this week at Stampin Up Only with the theme of Fall/Autumn.  My favourite time of the year.  I went for the cute Special Someone stamp set.

I started off by using an SU mask to stencil in the trees in the background with Soft Suede ink.  I then made my panel image of the squirrel and the mouse and used my SU watercolour pencils to colour it all in.  I added the grass stamps from High Tide at the bottom of the scene and added some old SU sequins.

I layered it all on to Early Espresso card stock.  The sentiment is from the same set and I used an old ink Really Rust to stamp it.  The banner is an old SU die cut and I added some retired dots in the middle of the flowers.

HAND STAMPED SENTIMENTS - #HSSCC351

Our colour challenge for you this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments uses the following colours:

I'm sure I've mentioned previously that I am not an SU Demo so I don't always have all the new colours as happened here with Bumblebee so I used Crushed Curry instead.  I think it looks very similar.  Our colours are always guidelines and you don't have to use the SU colours exactly.

So I started my card off with using the Drybrush stamp and some Crushed Curry.  This stamp is so great for making backgrounds and I feel it is often overlooked.  I then used the lovely Country Home set and my first time for using those lovely jugs.  This is just my kind of stamp set and I'm surprised it took me so long to buy it but I'm glad I did.  I stamped the jugs in the Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy and used the same colours to colour in the flowers.  That touch of green came about by mixing the Night of Navy and the Crushed Curry to give a green hue for the leaves.  The little sentiment is from the same set and I just added a few Night of Navy dots to finish it off.

I then added this to some Blackberry Bliss card stock and added some Linen Thread.

I used the tile stamp from the same set to stamp the background in Night of Navy ink onto the card stock to give tone on tone - I think you can just make out the stamps.  I then added a cut doily and inked it with a light of coating of Crushed Curry just to soften the white.  I added a Blackberry Bliss button and some thread to the bottom.#hss

TRY STAMPIN ON TUESDAY - #TSOT480

I'm in Thankful mode for our sketch this week at Try Stampin on Tuesday #TSOT480.  I had these gorgeous papers for scrapbookingn that I wanted to use on this card. Paired with the lovely stamp set from Stampin Up called Country Home they just seemed to go so well.

I started off by inking my background for the milk churn in Antique Linen Distress Ink.  The milk churn was coloured in with SU basic grey stampin blends and I used TH Distress Inks to colour in the flowers keeping the blues and oranges of the background papers.  The sentiment is from the same set - I stamped it and then cut it out to separate some of the wording.

SWEET STAMPIN - GIRLY - NO PINK

Our challenge for you this week at Sweet Stampin in a Girly card or project, No Pink.  My card was actually a birthday card for my best girl friend who actually adores pink so she was probably surprised to get this one from me with not a hint of pink on it!

I'm not sure what this type of card is called - maybe a peekaboo card - I found it on Dawn Griffiths you tube site and just altered it for my own design.  It's not as complicated to make as it looks and I hope you have a go.

The paper is old SU and the stamp set is SU Happy Wishes - such a great set.

STAMPIN UP ONLY CHALLENGE - SU260 - BIRTHDAYS

A great challenge today from SU Only Challenge which gives you free rein for Birthdays.

I pulled out Floral Essence for my bold and bright card - using just two of the flower stamps and some Melon Mambo - in full colour and stamped off for the two colours.  A touch of Chocolate Chip for the inside and Pear Pizazz for the leaves.  This was layered onto Pear Pizazz card stock and then Melon Mambo.  The banner is an old SU die cut.

There is a touch of Wink of Stella on some of the bigger flowers and a few pearls to finish off the card. #

HAND STAMPED SENTIMENTS SC350

Welcome to another Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge and our sketch for you this week

I used a Tim Holtz stencil for my background plaid - inking it in Distress Inks in Speckled Egg and Shabby Shutters. I cut my circle out of a stitched circle die and stamped it with a TH Stampers Anonymous Christmas stamp and edged it in Speckled Egg.  Before cutting out the reindeer with TH dies I prepared the paper by stamping and inking to give a design to the deer rather than just plain paper.  I added some sparkle to her bow and her glasses.

I used some TH Holiday Green thinlets for the foliage and kept it in white with some sparkle - the sentiment is from Visible Image called Sentimental Christmas.

JOY OF SETS BLOG HOP - HARVEST TIME

Autumn is my favourite time of the year so I was delighted that Angie McKenzie chose this as our theme for our Joy of Sets Blog Hop this month.

I've used a Stampin Up set here called Country Home - still current and such a lovely set - I'm so glad I got it - I love that milk churn.  I have a few ornamental ones in my garden.  I stamped the churn and the flowers first and then masked them off whilst I turned ot the rest of the tag.

I used the Distress Ink colours shown in the picture - mixing until I was happy with the effect - I also added a touch of Mustard Seed.  I added some TH Distress Crackle paste which had been coloured with Walnut Stain and added with a Tim Holtz dot stencil. I used various TH stencils to add interest to the background including a splatter stencil, letter stencils and a Stampers Anonymous script stamp.  The flowers in the churn were also coloured in with the distress inks. I used the SU blender pens in Grey to colour in the churn.  I used the tiny TH letter dies to make the word thanks.  The quotes are from Tim Holtz Idealogy sticker book and the lower sentiment is a stamp from Visible Image.

CHRISTMAS JOY

I've been treating myself lately to some new goodies from across the whole of Tim Holtz's range of products.  Today I received my order of the Christmas Collage paper and the Christmas paper dolls and wanted to have a play.

I was inspired by the sketch over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and based my card on that.

I started off with the smaller panel and used some TH cardstock and covered it first in Distress Collage Medium in Vintage and then added some of the Christmas Collage paper.  I added one of the little paper dolls and coloured her in with some distress crayons.  This image so reminds me of my daughter when she was younger as she had a lovely red coat similar to this at Christmas.

I added some Crackle Texture paste to the background piece and once dry I added some distress crayons and some more paper and stamps.  The word JOY is from an old TH set which has a matching die and the snowflake is from my stash.  The snowflake was covered in Distress Metallic crayon and then some Stickles added to it.

TRY STAMPIN ON TUESDAY - #TSOT478

Here's our sketch for you this week at Try Stampin on Tuesday - with the added challenge of making something spooky!  I don't really have many Hallowe'en stamps as it's not celebrated in the UK as much as in the USA, especially in terms of sending cards. So I had a little think and came up with this.  I started off with that lovely green cardstock and used a Sizzix embossing folder for the background.

I then took some old SU DSP which was black and white and coloured it with Tim Holtz Crackling Campfire.  The BOO letters are Tim Holtz shadow letters and they were stamped in Black Soot and SU Lemon and Lime Twist, adhered onto a stiched circle and then added to an SU doily also coloured in the same inks.  I added a few old SU sequins to finish off the card.

JOY OF SETS TIC TAC TOE #JOSTTT022

Welcome to another month's Tic Tac Toe Grid from The Joy of Sets Tic Tac Toe.

Our new Design Team member Beverly Cole has chosen our grid for us this month - what a beauty - I hope you have fun with this one. I chose to do a Christmas Tag for my project and had great fun making this one - I chose Ribbon, Window, Glitter.

I started off with a Tim Holtz tag and added a layer of TH Collage medium and Dina Wakley Gesso to add texture.  I then covered the tag with some Distress Crayons in Hickory Smoke, Vintage Photo - I used a TH stencil to remove some of the crayons with a wipe to leave some white parts.  The window is an old TH die and it was given the aged look with the Distress Crayons and some Gesso for snow.

The numbers and letters are TH dies.  The stars at the bottom is a TH 3d Impresslits folder - I love the way these emboss and cut out at the same time.  There is lots of glitter on the tag but I'm not sure it's showing up here. The ribbons were from my stash - black lace and grey satin ribbon.
