BEST BIRDS, COLOUR BLOCK TECHNIQUE - GLOBAL DESIGN PROJECT #075/WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY

I've been having fun with the colour block technique this week and my Masculine Monday You Tube tutorial showed one way of using this technique.

I hinted that I would be showing another way on my Wednesday tutorial and it just so happens to be Best Birds.  The challenge over at Global Design Project this week is

and the challenge over at Watercooler Wednesday is Masculine Cards - perfect for me at the moment.

http://watercoolerchallenges.blogspot.co.uk/

Thankfully birds are included because I really don't do insects.  Butterflies are fine and bees are just about ok but I must admit I shudder at the new stamp sets we have at SU at the moment with all those bugs.  I'm not even very good with the dragonflies although I know they are beautiful just not my cup of tea.

So my card included Colour Blocking which is bascially grabbing a load of all those scraps of cardstock we all keep and doing something useful with them.

My card on Monday was blues and today's card was greens.  They are all stuck on to a white card background and I then used the Birds and Blooms thinlets to cut out the bird from the coloured stock.  This gives a negative image of a white bird and you could just leave your card like this.  I used the bird I'd cut out, stamped him with this corresponding image and popped him onto dimenstionals sitting on the stamped branch.  A touch of Wink of Stella on his feathers, naturally, finishes him off. I used the Decorative Label punch for the greeting.

Here's my YouTube Tutorial which also shows another way of using this Technique

I can see I'm going to be using this technique a lot lately - you know when you come across something and you can't let it go - I'm eyeing up all my scraps!

As usual all products can be purchased direct from my store or why not come and join my team if you are thinking of SU as a hobby or a career.  You will get to join one of the top UK teams with lots of help and fun.  I also run classes at my home in Hampshire.

 HAPPY CRAFTING

RAK - GLOBAL DESIGN PROJECT

The Global Design Project has a great challenge this week - Random Acts of Kindness.  I've been making lots of these box cards with attached tealights - they make great presents and so far I've made a New Home one and a 60th birthday one -

My entry for the GDP is a Christmas one.  I've used the lovely Candy Cane Lane DSP and Real Red cardstock.

The size fits three little tea lights perfectly - I think Yankee Candles are slightly bigger than these ones though.

I cut out the house from the DSP and attached it to one of the Merry Tag Framelits and attached to the card with some lovely Candy Cane Lane Baker's Twine.  I used  Banners for Christmas Framelits for the sentiment and the sentiment itself came from Jar of Love.

The ribbon is Very Vanilla Stitched Satin - so beautiful to work with.

The whole card is then presented in a lovely box - I used Real Red Cardstock for the base and Candy Cane Lane DSP for the top.  A belly band was made in the same DSP and I used the Decorative Label punch with sentiments from Sweet Home stamp set.

HERE'S TO CHEERS

Do You Remember? The 21st Night of September? I hope you are now humming the famous Earth Wind and Fire song.  I certainly remember the 21st of September because its my Wedding Anniversary.  31 years today - can't believe the time has gone so quickly.  I know everyone says that but its true!

A nice fun image of myself and my ushers back in 1985!  Sadly so many of them are no longer with us.

So hubby and I have taken ourselves off to a lovely place in Dorset, England called Lulworth Cove - just us and the dogs for a few days together.

Its a beautiful part of the county and we used to go a lot when the children were little.  My card today is a Celebratory card.  Also from the Winter Catalogue but maybe more New Year than Christmas but, as shown here, could also be used for Anniversaries or any Celebration.

The colours have been inspired by Sam Hammond's Colour Challenge this week which is to use Flirty Flamingo and Mint Macaron and Tip Top Taupe.  You'll find the challenge here

I've used one of the framelits from the Merry Tags set to cut out the bauble and the sentiment fits exactly.  Marvellous!!  The Decorative Label punch was used for the cute image of the wine and the glasses.  Might be some of that being drunk tomorrow!!!

I finished the bauble off with a touch of Flirty Flamingo Ruched Ribbon - I love this ribbon - it's so pretty and nice to work with.

JAR OF LOVE

Its cold and miserable here in the UK again, the wind is blowing and it feels like winter not August.  So I've been playing with Jar of Love again and the Serene Scenery, again!!!.... to make a lovely beach scene to make me feel like its summer.

I've used Bermuda Bay card stock as the base covered in some of our silver which has been embossed with the dots embossing folder.  As per Watercooler's sketch I've turned my card around and added some of the wonderful Serene Scenery DSP.  The Jar tag has been cut with the framelits from the Jar of Love series.  I cut the larger jar first in Whisper White and then another in Bermuda Bay and inlaid the smaller label to cut inside the Bermuda Bay.  A wash of Pool Party on the white jar gave us the water and I cut out two of the leaves with the framelits for the fronds for the little fish to hide in.  Dazzling Diamonds was added then I cut a piece of Window Sheet and put it all together.

The top of the jar was embossed with Silver Embossing powder and I added two of our lovely ribbons in Bermuda Bay and Silver.  I added some Basic Rhinestones to the bottom.

The label was punched out with the Decorative Label punch.  The wording is also from the Jar of Love set - I covered over the For from the FOR YOU with a bit of sellotape.  Remember though to remove the ink that will stick to the tape - which I didn't do the first time!!  A little embossed silver heart from the same set finished off the label.

This card is going into hubby's lunch box tomorrow - he's had a hard time healthwise at the moment and yesterday at work fell over and hurt his back on a steel pole.  Bless him he was back at work this morning but he's tool old to be falling over.  I'd love to see his face and the rest of the guys when he sees this in his lunch box! lol!

I'm entering my little fish into some challenges.  Watercooler Wednesday as they have given us a sketch to work with.
