I'M HEARTBROKEN

DH and I took our dog, Tara, to the vet's yesterday as she has had a lump on her leg for some months - I've been to the vets about it twice and they just kept saying it was a fatty lump. As it had got so much bigger we went back and we were in total shock when the vet said there was nothing could be done because of where and how big the lump was and we should prepare ourselves for Tara not being with us much longer. He mentioned weeks, maybe months. She's only 8 - she'll be 9 on Christmas Day.

We are all devastated - we have had such a difficult year with one thing and another and this is just yet another blow.

We're not taking it lying down though and have asked to see a specialist.

Seeing a specialist is a good idea. It never hurts to get a second or even third opinion.

Years ago my cat Billie had a lump on her leg. That did turn out to be a fatty lump, but our vet checked it out thoroughly.

I'll be thinking of you. Please keep us posted as to what you find out.

I meant to add that Tara is a beautiful girl. :-)

I'm sorry to hear that, it is awful to lose a pet. We lost two dogs within a week and one was only 8 years old.
I don't blame you asking for a specialist, I should have done that when the vet told us they couldn't operated on my son's 10 year old lizard - a year later we saw a specialist who said they could have operated but he had suffered organ damage so it was too late.
I hope it works out for you and your gorgeous dog Fiona.

Sending you a warm hug, I know how devastated you must feel right now. I have lost a dog to cancer when he was 9 years old, lost another to Lupus at 10 years old and then this year I lost a dog for the first time ever to pure old age - he was nearly 18!. Hang in there and give Tara lots of hugs and cuddles and hold onto the thought that even if the end comes sooner than you had hoped, at least she has had a great life and been loved by her family.
