CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA #125 - TAG BOOK

Time for another Creative Artiste Mixed Media challenge and we would like to see your Mixed Media projects.

I'm really enjoying creating little books and junk journals.  I seem to have so many cards that are just piling up with no-one to love them that I need a different outlet to be creative with.  Hence creating books.

This has been my latest project - a tag book.  It is still a work in progress and I haven't yet decided exactly how many tags I will add to the finished article but so far I have finished 5 tags double sided.  The tags are quite large 7" x 4" so are great to work with. I am doing all the pages as a nature theme and each one will have a butterfly on it somewhere.

I've used various stamps by Tim Holtz, Tracy Evans, Alison Bomber, Studio Light, Creative Expressions to name but a few. I've added die cuts by Tim Holtz, Tim Holtz Idealogy, Distress Inks and Oxides, Paper Artsy paints.  Texture Paste is by Daler Rowney which is my favourite to use.  I've also used old book pages and various material pieces, linens and lace.

I'm adding this into the following:
Outlawz - anything but a card
Tag Along - Butterflies, Blooms

ADDICTED TO STAMPS AND MORE #509 ANY OCCASION

It's time for Any Occasion challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More.  I run a Facebook RAK group where we send out cards to each other once a month so I'm always creating cards that have a suitable sentiment.  The Hello for this one was just perfect.

I used a new stamp set I won on a blog challenge. It's by Studio Light called Vintage Roses.  I started off my background with a gel plate pull and added the word stamp from the set.  I also added some torn old paper with the same word stamp on it and a background sheet stamped off with the roses.  I added some lace and then my panel of the actual roses.  The butterfly is also from the same set. I added a brad to the top of my panel - remember those!! and tucked the word hello into the side.

I'm adding this into the following:

PEARLY SPARKLES - #115 - USE PATTERNED PAPER

Happy New Year and welcome back to another year of creativity and crafting with Pearly Sparkles.  We hope you play along with us all year.

Our first challenge for you is to use patterned paper.  Now for some this may not be a challenge but it is for me as I rarely use it anymore preferring to create my own backgrounds.  I do have a load of papers which need using up but they mostly get used for my scrapbooking.

I chose a piece from Paper Favourites called Blue Ephemera.  I loved the script on it and thought it would go well with a new stamp set I have from Studio Light called Vintage Roses.  I love the book stamp.  I simply added the stamp to a tag and layered the tags and the paper.  The Hello sentiment is from an old Colorado Craft Company set.

THE MALE ROOM #204 - FLORAL

Our challenge for you this month at the Male Room is Floral.  Tricky don't you think sometimes for male cards.  Well hubby was sitting next to me in our craft room and I asked him what sort of floral he would like as a male.  Straight away he said thistle and I was delighted when I remembered I have a thistle stamp that hasn't been inked in a while!  I love it when a plan comes together!

My thistle stamp is from Studio Light and is simply called Thistle.  I used some watercolour paper for this card. I stencilled an old Tim Holtz stencil first which is the German text one in Versafine Portobello ink.  I then stamped over this with Versafine Nocturne and added a colour wash of Fossilized Amber and Iced Spruce around the image.  I used Tim Holtz Villainous Potion Distress Ink for the thistle heads and Forest Moss for the leaves.  The sentiment is from a Tim Holtz Ideaology book.

SIMON SAYS STAMP MONDAY CHALLENGE GUEST DESIGNER - A TAG SHOWCASING STUDIO LIGHT

I am delighted to have been asked to be Guest Designer for the month of April for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

Our first challenge for this month is a Tag showcasing Studio Light.  I must admit this is not a company I have heard of before so it was exciting to be using some new stamps.  My eye was immediately drawn to this gorgeous Thistle stamp set with the gorgeous thistle and the extra images of the bird and the ladybird.  A set that is right up my mixed media street!  I had a great time playing with this set and as well as the project for the challenge I also did a few more which I've added below.

For my tag for this Monday challenge I did the following:

I used some watercolour paper from my stash for the tag which measures approximately 6" x 3 ".

I started off by smooshing some inks for my background - drying in between until I was happy with the results.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers and Distress Oxide Twisted Citron.  I then stamped the thistle stamp in Versafine Clair Nocturne and used some black embossing powder to make it pop.

I coloured some ribbon from my stash with the Wilted Violet and added some wording from an old dictionary I use for my mixed media with the word Thistle on it.  I also stamped the little ladybird next to the thistle.

Some Distress Oxide in Black Soot and some twine from my stash which was inked with the Wilted Violet finished off this tag.

Products Used:

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Black Soot

                Versafine Clair Nocturne

Embossing Powder - Spellbinders Black

I also had a play with this set on a canvas which measures 7" x 5".  I love working on canvases of this size and it makes a change from cards.  I brayered Old Paper Distress Oxide and Pumice Stone Distress Oxide onto the canvas.  I used a Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil with some Tim Holtz Crackle Paste to add a bit more texture.  I used a Tim Holtz word stencil with some Distress Oxide Salvaged Patina to some of the corners.  The numbers are from the same stencil which were inked in Pumice Stone.

I then stamped the thistle stamp with Versafine Clair Pinecone.  I stamped the bird separately and cut it out layering it onto some cheesecloth material which has also been stamped with the extra dots stamp that is in the set.  I added some twine as a branch for the bird to rest on. The quote is from an old Tim Holtz Ideaology book Small Talk and thought it suited this as I was trying to work with just this one set and not throw a load of products at my canvas like I usually do.

Here is what I used on my extra canvas project:

Tim Holtz Mini Stencil set 49

I had one more play with a tag using a simple watercolour technique.  I inked the stamp with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Peeled Paint and Dusty Concord - gave it a spritz of water and stamped it onto watercolour paper.  Once it was dry and I added some Distress Oxide Antique Linen to the background and Distress Oxide Iced Spruce to the edges.  A simple CAS tag which allows this lovely stamp to shine.
