CAS COLOURS AND SKETCHES #296

This is my last post for today - I seem to be on a roll for a Monday. I had this card done but realised I hadn't blogged about it yet and wanted to add it into the challenge for CAS Colours and Sketches #296 which was the following:  a double challenge and although I didn't have the exact colours I made do with some alternate Stampin Up colours.

I've used a retired Stampin Up set here called Season of Joy - I just love this Christmas tree - the little presents are also very  ld SU stamps from about 1990!!  I used Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wasabi and Not Quite Navy for my colours with a some So Saffron card stock behind the Whisper White.   The Christmas presents have a touch of Dazzling Diamonds on them and the twine is Old Olive.

The sentiment is not SU and is an old but favourite one of mine as it reminds me of one of my favourite films for the Festive season which is Meet Me In St Louis - I just love Judy Garland and this song in particular.  Christmas Eve normally finds me having a few quite hours watching this again.  Here I've embossed it with Silver Embossing Powder.

WHEN THE RED RED ROBIN.....

Look at this cute little robin - I love him - I've found I don't have an awful lot of stamps that I can actually colour in and saw this Little Robin from Wild Rose Studios and thought he would fit the bill.

I'm using him for the challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches #295 this week which is the following sketch

I used some SU colours to colour in my robin - an old SU colour called Real Rust, Cherry Cobbler for his hat, Soft Suede and Going Gray.  I used a Wink of Stella for all the white parts so that they shine a little bit.  The Merry Christmas sentiment is from Merry Patterns.  I used grey card stock and added some red and grey ribbon to the background.

As this is a CAS card I stopped myself from adding any extra bits and left him alone.  I think he will be making some more appearances though!

CLEAN AND SIMPLE CHRISTMAS CANDLES

The challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches #294 this week is their Colour challenge and I loved this colours together.  I knew straight away what set I wanted to use and it was Stampin Up's retired Merry Patterns and those gorgeous candles.  When I first got this set I wasn't really that fussed on them but as soon as I started using them I fell in love with them.  I thought they would be lovely for this challenge and give an alternative Christmas colour.

I used Very Vanilla for my card and card base and layered it with some Soft Suede cardstock.  The candles were inked with the soft suede and then I used the Berry Burst for some of them.  The others were inked with an old SU colour Regal Rose as I don't have Blushing Bride but I think it's very similar.  I then simply added the sentiment in Soft Suede.

To stop the card being too flat - I re-inked another of the Regal Rose candles and then cut them out and placed them individually on some dimensionals to give the card a bit of depth.

A touch of Wink of Stella on the flames to make them glitter and the card is finished.

I adore these colours together and will be trying out some more cards.

I'm also including this in the challenge for Addicted to Stamps which is asking for a CAS card.

LOTUS BLOSSOM CAS

I think this beautiful stamp of the lotus blossom really lends itself to a CAS card (Clean and Simple).  It's actually a three stamping flower from Stampin Up which is really easy to use.  I've kept mine really simple here - for the CAS Colours and Sketches #269 which gave us a sketch to follow. Addicted to Stamps also has a CAS challenge this week.

The three colours I used for my flower were Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point - all Stampin Up colours.  I used Stitched Framelits to cut the image out and the backing card.  The card was then simply stamped with the sentiments from the set in Tempting Turquoise. I added some glitter enamel dots and some Dazzling Diamonds to the flower.

CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER

I have a lot of friends who groan when I mention Christmas this early but really us crafters have to get ahead of the game - it's no use waiting until December to start making our cards is it?  So I am going to challenge myself to make some Christmas cards for some Challenge blogs over the next few weeks, that way I should have a good amount of Christmas cards in all different styles.

The challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches this week is a Sketch -

I often find Sketches challenging as I tend to follow them to the letter and really need to use them as guidelines rather than rules - you know the phrase out of Pirates of the Caribbean lol!

My card uses a very old Cherry Pie Art stamp with all the Merry Christmas's written in different languages - it has been my go to stamp for Christmas for manyyears.  I masked it and stamped two trees full of glitter behind it - I'm not sure where the other tree stamp came from.  The sentiment is also one of my favourites as Meet Me In St Louis with Judy Garland when she sings that song is one of my favourite Christmas Movies.

I'm also including this in Watercooler Wednesday's Challenge this week which is all about Christmas .

FEATHERS

A clean and simple card from me today for the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge this this week is a colour challenge.  I must admit Flirty Flamingo is not one of my favourite colours and I only have it in a marker pen which does limit me somewhat.

I really love the Feather Together stamp set from Stampin' Up! and its one I'm going to be keeping in my stash.  I think the choice of sentiments too are so varied and useful so it was my go to set for this challenge.

There are a selection of five feathers in the set for five set stamping (!) but as this is a Clean and Simple challenge I chose to keep it simple and only stamp one of the feathers - they were stamped in Lemon Lime Twist and Night of Navy with the wording inked in the Flirty Flamingo.  A Night of Navy Enamel heart just finishes off the card which has been layered with Very Vanilla, Night of Navy and Lemon Lime Twist.

DAISY DELIGHT TRI FOLD SHUTTER CARD

How exciting to be chosen as winner at CAS Colours and Sketches again this week for my butterfly card.  It's a great honour especially as I'm still learning the art of Clean and Simple.

My next card is definitely neither Clean nor Simple.  It is however going in to the Global Design Project #GDP089 challenge this week which is a colour challenge.  I was sad to hear Kylie Bertucci is leaving the group which I believe she set up. I've 'met' Kylie through FB and belong to a few of her groups - it sounds as though she is moving on to something exciting and I wish her lots of luck.

 http://www.global-design-project.com/2017/05/global-design-project-089-colour.html

I had actually just made this card this morning and started to do a video tutorial but my phone died so the tutorial will be added later.  It was just lucky I had been using these colours anyway -apart from the black which had to be just sneaked in there somewhere! lol

Anyway my card is a Tri Fold Shutter card - it looks complicated to do but isn't really once you get going and it definitely has the Wow factor.    It also uses lots of small pieces of DSP so go one get cutting - and it doens't actually use a lot of DSP.

Trying to take decent pictures though is a whole other problem.  For this card I used some of the Delightful Daisy DSP - I love this - I've nearly gone through a whole pack already.  I also used the Daisy Delight stamps, some of the sentiments from Colourful Seasons and Beautiful You.  I used my now retiring butterfly punches, I'm keeping hold of those though.  And the butterfly on the front was from Bold Butterfly Framelits.

Here's another example of the same type of card using different papers in this DSP.

AVANT GARDEN- CAS COLOURS AND SKETCHES

There is a colour challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches this week.  I do like colour challenges because they really get you out of your comfort zone and make you use colours, be it inks or papers you otherwise would leave at the bottom of the pile!

I'm not a fan of Flirty Flamingo and don't often use it  - so it was nice to have to use it in this sketch.  Mind you, you have to look hard to find it on my card.  It's actually just used on the petals of the flowers, along with the Watermelon Wonder but it has come out a bit dark in the photo.

As the challenge is clean and simple I have tried to keep this as plain as I could.  I love the flowers in this Avant-Garden Sale-A-Bration set and what's not to like when it's a FREE set!

SERENE SCENERY

I'm loving this 6x6 Designer Series Paper - Serene Scenery and wanted to use it again on my card for two challenges - CAS Colours and Sketches Challenge and As You See It - both have sketches.

CAS colours is the following: click on the image to be taken to their site.

 http://cascoloursandsketches.blogspot.co.uk/

The butterfly is from Papillon Potpourri and punched out with our large punch.  The butterfly has been coloured in with Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum Marker Pens and a touch of Wink of Stella. The backing paper for the sentiment is another of the Serene Scenery papers and the sentiment is from Jar of Love.

As You See It Challenge also had a sketch - click on the image.

I've used three of the papers from the Serene Scenery pack.  The sentiments are from Thankful Thoughts.  The butterfly from Papillon Potpourri was punched out of vellum paper.  The vellum was first inked up in Crushed Curry and left to dry.  Wink of Stella ws added to the You and the Butterfly.

PICTURE PERFECT JAR OF LOVE

Playing with a different set of stamps today - Picture Perfect.  I just adore roses - they are my favourite flowers - not the bland unscented ones you get in shops but the ones I grow in my garden that may not be perfect, the leaves may be a bit green here and there but the scent is something else.  They are the flowers of my childhood as they were my dear mum's favourite flowers and I always have a rose in a bud vase next to her picture as she is no longer with me.

Roses are so lovely from small buds......

.... to when they are just starting to emerge.....

 ...up to full bloom!

So for the challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches I chose Picture Perfect.  Their sketch was quite simple and leaves a lot to the imagination. Click on the image to be taken to their site.

http://cascoloursandsketches.blogspot.co.uk/

I used Rich Razzleberry for the cardstock and the Rich Razzleberry Ombre stamp pad for the actual rose.  The rose is three step stamping - takes a little while to get used to it but its such a pretty rose its well worth the ink on your fingers!

The same goes for the leaves which are also three step stamping.  The sentiment is from the same set.  The background wash of colour behind the rose is Blushing Bride put on with an Aqua painter.

I did sprinkle a touch of Wink of Stella over the rose just for a bit of sparkle.

The challenge over at Global Design Project is to CASE the following card. Click on the image to be taken to the challenge.

I've used the new Jar of Love set.  Not sure if you're the same as me but as soon as I get a new set I seem to not know when to stop putting it all one card.  This is a bit what happened here.  I'd seen a lovely similar card on Pinterest which I used for my inspiration.

I've used the butterflies as my inspiration for the CASE'd card.  I used to do a lot of paper tearing a few years ago and you don't see a lot of it around at the moment so I thought I would bring it back.
