CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA #113

For my DT piece for Creative Artiste Challenge Blog this month I was inspired by Alison Bomber of W0rdsandP1ctures and her Violets stamp set for Paper Artsy to create a 3d piece out of an old cheese box.  I have made these in the past but totally forgot how much fun they are to make.

The whole box was covered with Gesso and I use Liquitex. I then covered the base of the box with Tim Holtz Distress Paint.  You can see it but the cheese labels which were still on the box came through and gave a great addition of texture.

I then created my own tissue paper with Alison's stamps and covered the edges of the box with this.

For the front of the box which has the inside I added a piece of card which I had in my stash from an earlier gel press play so that really decided my colours.  Luckily it was in a shade of violet.  I added some background stamping - I cut out the violets many times to stick in various places on the piece.  I tucked a bit of lace behind the violet and added some wash tape words.  I also added some lichen from my garden - some Tim Holtz Funky Thinlet leaf dies - and can you spot right in the middle a tiny little air plant.  It is a baby from one of the plants in my home.  I think he looks right at home there.

I continued the theme on the back of the box - I used  Distress Paint in Brushed Corduroy to give a sort of bark effect.  I added an extra stamp of Alison's from her Pressed Umbrels set.

I love how it turned out and it may even get pride of place on the Easter table with some little chocolate eggs tucked in.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA #112

We are back at Creative Artiste Challenge Blog after our Christmas break and hope you are all ready to join in with us again for another year of fun Mixed Media. I fancied having a go at a mini book.  It actually ran away with me and I made more pages than I had originally anticipated - it became quite addictive. It's quite a small little book - 4" x 5" and I simply folded sheets of paper and then did a seam binding with some Tim Holtz tape.

All stamps used are Alison Bomber stamps from Paper Artsy.  I also used Tim Holtz collage paper Photographic.  I added some stickers from Tim Holtz Idealogy and tried to match appropriate sentiments to the images.

I had great fun making this little book and would encourage anyone to have a go and just play.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA

Welcome back to another month's challenge here at Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge.  We love seeing all your mixed media and the huge variety that the concept of Mixed Media envelopes.

This month I've been channelling my inner artist - and it is so inner it's hard to find.  I find it amazing that I now make art - my older brother was the artist in the family and it was never something I ever thought I would do yet here I am.  This is a painting I have made with a few Lavinia stamps.  The inspiration came from a youtube artist Lisa Taggart and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

From a Mixed Media point of view I've used a variety of colouring tools to create this including ink for the stamps, watercolour inks for the backgrounde, soft pastel sticks, and oil pastels for creating the heathers and the trees.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA challenge #109

My goodness aren't the months flying by.  Welcome back to October's Creative Artiste Mixed Media challenge where we want to see at least three different mediums on your project.

A good crafting friend of mine had recently been on a paper making course and was showing me what she had made and very generously offered me some of her papers.  The one I chose inspired my canvas this month.  It was made from sunflower seeds and stems from a sunflower.  It is very delicate so I added some clear gesso for extra strength before I could start adding to it.  You can see it as my background on top of the canvas. It gives a great layer of texture to the piece.

I used one of the stamps from Alison Bomber's set Umbels which I stamped onto tissue paper and then added it to the handmade paper.  My friend had also just got back from the US and had kindly bought me a Tim Holtz ephemera pack.  Can you believe she went into one of the craft stores and they had never heard of him!!  The pieces I chose were the perfect colour for my muted autumnal background.

I added some Distress Ink to the edges of the canvas and used one of Alison's crackle stamps to stamp around the edges.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA - JULY

Welcome back to another challenge at Creative Artiste Mixed Media.  Please remember we are a Mixed Media challenge and as such want to see at least 3 different mediums on your projects - not just paper and ink.

I'm sharing a canvas I have recently completed for a competition.  Our area WI (Women's Institute) holds a competition for all the WI's in the area and their theme this year is Beatrix Potter.  My entry is going in as part of our group entry which includes someone else baking and decorating a cake, some knitted items, some embroidery, some jam and my canvas.  Fingers crossed - I'll let you know how we get on!

My canvas size is 8# x 10#.  I covered it first in various paints from Tim Holtz.  I then added some texture paste through a stencil and added extra colour.  The stamping is from various stamps from Tracy Evans.  The Peter Rabbit has been cut from an image and some extra coloured added to him.

The little pot is from moulded clay and then stamped with a stamp by Tracy Evans. This is the first time I've played with modelling clay and I loved it.  I followed instructions from a Tracy Evans workshop.  Stamping into the clay was inspired. I dried it around a jar to give it that dimension then added dried litchen from the garden. I've also added a dried twig for it to sit on.  I then used Tim Holtz Distress Crayons to gently colour the images on the pot as it was still quite delicate.

DELIGHTED TO SAY MY LITTLE PETER RABBIT WON FIRST PRIZE

I'm adding this into the following challenges:

Ellies I Spy - something blooming lovely
Paper Funday - Critter Crazy
NBUS - Modelling Clay

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA CHALLENGE #105

Creative Artiste is a monthly challenge blog for everyone who likes to mix their media. So, as long as you like to use various mediums on your creations, we'd love to see you enter the challenge.

Its the first Friday of the month and that means a new challenge over at Creative Artiste Mixed Media Creative Artiste Mixed Media where we ask you to include at least 3 different mediums on your project.

I'm sharing another journal page - I just love how this one turned out.  I was even so disciplined that I let the layers dry in between throwing all my mediums at it.  After adding gesso to the page I added some paste with a stencil and then used some inks and lots of water to get that smudged look.  The inks I used were Liquitex Acrylic Muted Grey and Tim Holtz Faded Jeans and Wilted Violet Distress Oxides.  The image of the window top left is a Shawn Petite stencil and the little window and frame is actually from my husbands model railway buildings - one he'd thrown away and I nabbed it.  It's just perfect for this page.

The butterfly die cut is from Tim Holtz and I added a pen nib to the body.  I added some background stamping from Alison Bomber stamps and the seal is of a ship at sea.  She has told us the significance of this stamp to her set in one of her videos.  I used some washi tape with the word Journey underneath the butterfly and the sentiment is from Alison's stamps.  I used an oil pastel crayon around the edges of the paper.

I'm sharing my art journal page with Art Journal JourneyArt Journal Journey - they ask what makes you  happy?  Art journaling makes me happy - I never thought I would be able to be this creative!

This is my May calendar page - I've set us a challenge on my own Facebook craft group The Joy of Sets to create our own calendars for 2025.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA - APRIL

Welcome to another month's challenge at Creative Artiste Mixed Media where our challenges are always Anything Goes as long as you've used at least 3 different types of medium.

I rarely share my journals but I wanted to just show this double page spread this month.  The tissue paper in the top left and bottom right actually came wrapped around a garden gift from a company called A Blackbird Sang and the garden accessory was wrapped in this lovely paper.  It was far too good to throw away and became the inspiration for this page.

My journal is an old leather bound book hubby bought me years ago and it has handmade papers in it which can be a bit tricky when working on so I always cover the pages with lots of gesso before I begin.  The background colours were made with Sam Poole Botanical Stains in Carrot Top Green and Tea Leaves  from Cosmic Shimmer - I loved the way they turned out. I added some background stamping with some Tracy Evans stamps and two of her birds.  The feathers are from Stampin Up.  I doodled on some flower images and added some strips of Washi tape.

I'm adding this into the following challenge:

Here's my calendar page also for March - a year long challenge I have set some of my members of my FB group to create our own calendars for 2025.  I'm adding this into the following challenge:

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA - AG

Welcome back to another month's challenge at Creative Artiste Mixed Media.  We hope you've had a nice break and are now raring to go with a Mixed Media project.

I run a Facebook craft group called The Joy of Sets and I have set the ladies a challenge on there that will last us all year.  We are going to make our own 2025 calendars adding a page a month.  This is my January page.  The background paper was taken from a Somerset Studio magazine as my base.  I used various stamps from Creative Expressions.  I also added some pieces from Taperlogy.  The feather was from my stash and was inked in Tim Holtz Black Soot.  I stamped some of the sentiments onto some calico.  The January and date stamps are from Tracy Evans. Strips of washi tape have also been added.  I've added some Tim Holtz embellishments.  The calendar part was printed from my computer.

I'm making my calendar in a watercolour pad by Winsor and Newton which luckily has 12 pages.

If you would like to join us at my Facebook group you will find us here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1287196548026205

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA

A rare sharing of my journal for our project this month at Creative Artiste Mixed Media.  It's not something I always show as I think journals are personal things but my page is just celebrating autumn which is my favourite time of the year.  My journal book is a gorgeous leather bound handmade paper book which hubby bought me years ago and sat unloved in a cupboard.  So I decided to use it as a journal.  The leather has got a bit gessoed but it gives it character oops!

I always gesso the pages just to give them more strength and as it is hand made paper it helps to protect the paper from all the media stuff I'm going to throw at it.

I started off with my gell press and added some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink in Fossilised Amber and Frayed Burlap.  I spritzed it with water and then just added the press direct to the page.  Once dry I added some Cosmic Shimmer Antique Sand Paste by Sam Poole in Moss Blanket. I love this paste and this gorgeous vintage colour. I used a stencil from my stash and just added it to some opposite corners.  I used the Nibs and Mushrooms stamp set from Tracy Evans direct to paper and cut some extra ones out for the picture frame.  The frame and the butterfly elements were from Taperlogy.  The extra words are also from Tracy Evans at Aallandcreate.

In the margins I have added some journaling as to what Autumn means to me.  I love the colours of this page and how it all turned out.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA - ANYTHING GOES

Welcome to another month's challenge at Creative Artiste Mixed Media.

Some time ago I had an interesting find in a charity shop.  It was a replica package from the British Museum regarding the Suffragettes.  This little packet of treasures sparked my interest -we all have heard of one or two of the ladies who gave so much so that we could benefit years down the line but I don't think we really know that much about what they had to put up with.  It has made for fascinating reading both from the little replica pack and the further research I have been doing.

I decided I wanted to use this little pack in some way and decided that I would do a set of Suffragette Tags which has some photo images of some of the ladies, who I personally had never heard of.  So let me introduce you to two of them.

Our first tag is of Miss Grace Roe - born 1885 in Surrey England and died in 1979. I am glad she survived to see Women's Votes being given.  She joined the Campaign in 1908 having heard Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel speaking.  The image of her on the tag is from 1914 when she was arrested for being a member of the Women's Social and Political Union and she was imprisoned in Holloway Prison Here she endured hunger strike and forced feeding until there was an amnesty from the Government of the time due to WW1. After the War she opened a opened a bookshop and metaphysical library in Santa Barbara, California. She stayed in close contact with Christabel Pankhurst.

I've used Tim Holtz Tag dies for both of my tags.  The background has been made with Distress Ink and Texture Paste.  I've used the Rosemary Edition by Alison Bomber PapertArtsy stamps to emboss the background with the words and I fussy cut the rosemary sprig.  The Hope embellishment is an old one from my Stash and I've added some calico ribbon.

My second tag shows a lady called Mary Gawthorpe - she was born in 1881 in Leeds, England and died in 1973 in New York. She was a teacher and left teaching to join the WSPU in 1906.  She was arrested many times over the years and eventually left the UK to emigrate to New York City in 1916 where she became active in the American Suffrage movement.

The second tag uses Distress Ink in Milled Lavender, Wilted Violet and Peeled Paint to match the colour of the ticket from the pack.  I've added some texture paste through a brick stencil to represent the brick walls that these ladies faced and also how they built their way to success.  I've used some pieces from Taperlogy also.

These are obviously just very short snippets of what these ladies did but I have found it fascinating and will continue to create some mixed media tags with the contents of the little replica pack.

CREATIVE ARTISTE MIXED MEDIA - ANYTHING GOES

Welcome back to another month's challenge at Creative Artiste where we celebrate all things Mixed Media.

I recently took part in a Fodder Challenge which I found via Alison Bomber's Instagram account.  I was new to the whole Fodder School and the challenge was a free sample of what they offer all year round.  Sadly funds won't allow me to join in with the school but the free 11 day challenge was great fun.  Some were not my style but a few were just right up my street and they certainly challenged me to think outside of the box.  My piece here is one of them as I used colours I don't often use.  I'm not normally a brights sort of girl!

My Mixed Tag was inspired by Shay Michelle and I really enjoyed making it.  I used the back of an old pack of paper - you can still see the tag attached which is great for hanging this little piece up in future.  I loved the way she made her tags and told us it doesn't matter if they are not straight, if the cut away angles are not exact - it was like having permission to get things a bit wonky which is something I adore!  The tags had little clusters on them of just bits and pieces from my stash.

The tags are attached at the top and then when you lift them up there is a space for journalling.  I also decorated the back of them and gave them some quotes from Tim Holtz.   The Creativity sentiment is from Visible Image stamps. The words at the top are from some washi tape from Aallandcreate.
